day dreams

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible. ~T.E. Lawrence

I thought it was one word...

Something looks wrong about the title of her blog, you're saying? Let me say now, it's not wrong. It's creative liberty. Technically, "daydream" is one word, but I want it to be two words. My dreams are not, as the Oxford on my desktop says, "a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present." Quite the contrary. My dreams are rooted in the harsh reality that is the present world, and instead of distracting me from the present, they often force me deeper into it. It's what I like most about my dreams and also what makes my dreams hard to handle. Why "day"? Because I don't remember the last time I woke up in the morning and could remember a dream. I dream only during the day -- of ways to make the world a better, more meaningful place, and how what I do can help us all along that path. So there you have it: day dreams.

(One more thing about the division of "daydream": if I'm honest, I want it to be two words because I like to go against the flow every now and then...just enough that people notice the tension, but not enough that they know the tension is me.)
